Ouchy and its lakeside promenade

If you board Switzerland’s only vertical metro at Lausanne station, a few minutes later you step out into another world. Along the lakeshore, where a small fishing harbour once stood, generous quays meander past extensive parkland and imposing buildings. On the opposite shore, the peaks of the Savoy Alps rise into the sky. If you feel like being active, you can hire a pedalo or a bicycle; if you’re after a challenge, you can book a waterski lesson. In Ouchy, the sights are also close together: here you’ll find the historic Chateau d’Ouchy, the Olympic Museum and the photography museum Musée de l’Elysée. In the park of the Beau-Rivage hotel, the famous dog cemetery is tucked away, and in the rose garden more than 130 varieties of rose are in bloom.
