About this place

The Botanical Museum was founded in 1895 by Hans Schinz and was affiliated in 2015 with the Institute for Plant and Microbiology. Its teaching and research collections, which are important scientifically, bioculturally and historically, are regularly shown as part of temporary exhibitions. 20‘000 to 25‘000 botanical curiosities, often illustrated with rich photographic material, come from research expeditions carried out on all continents. Fossils from the Miocene, plant remains from pile dwellings, burial garlands from Ancient Egypt, native and exotic woods, fruit, seeds and flowers, oversized flower models and dioramas give you an insight into the impressive history of botany and the relationships between plants and people.
