Avalanche course · answered by the editorial team

What requirements do I need for an avalanche course?

You don't need any special prerequisites as long as you have a normal level of fitness. However, you should bring functional clothing, technical material and sun protection.

The technical material usually includes:

  • touring skis or splitboard with touring binding and touring boots
  • telescopic poles
  • crampons
  • skins
  • avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe

However, the organizer of your avalanche course will tell you exactly what you need to bring or can borrow.

Is an avalanche course conducted alone or in groups?

An avalanche course is conducted in small groups. This makes sense because the individual persons have to perform different tasks in practice. This way you can learn well to experience the different activities of a rescue from different angles.
