From Reichenbach im Kandertal, the bus of line 220 takes you through the Scharnachtal valley to Kiental. It initially covers 250 of the 800-meter altitude gain up to Griesalp.
The road becomes very steep between Tschingel (Kiental) and Griesalp, which is situated at 1408 meters above sea level, with inclines reaching up to 28%. The steep section of the road is a one-way street and is very narrow. The postal bus navigates 20 hairpin bends precisely.
Along the way, you can disembark at any stop to enjoy the view or explore hiking routes. In this case, check the timetable so you know when to be ready at the next bus stop.

Practical information:
The Griesalp offers a large network of easy to challenging hiking trails. It is situated in a beautiful alpine cultural landscape, which in the rear Kiental part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. Along the route, you will repeatedly find simple mountain inns operated personally by their owners.
A lovely half-day hike takes you over the alpine farming and nature educational trail in Kiental. It features several informative notice boards and begins directly at the post bus stop at Kurhaus. There are two stages, which can be completed in 2 and 4.5 hours respectively. The shorter section can easily be hiked even in bad weather.
At Tschingel, you could stop and continue with the next postal bus. On one hand, the view from outside of the ascending postal bus is worth seeing. On the other hand, Tschingelsee is worth a closer look. It was formed by a large mudslide and consists of alternating gravel beds, small lakes, and streams.
