The exhibition at Zeughaus Altdorf brings together works by Stefan Bissig, Bertha Shortiss and Andrea Furrer-Stadler, whose distinct artistic signatures open up a varied and tension-filled spectrum. This creates a lively dialogue between material, form and expression. Stefan Bissig approaches nature with an alert eye: in found objects, he discovers forms that set his artistic process in motion. His wooden sculptures arise from a direct relationship with the material – shaped by attentiveness, intuition and openness to the unpredictable. Bertha Shortiss’s stone sculptures are also marked by movement. Constant change, balance, as well as nature and life, form the driving forces of her work. Andrea Furrer-Stadler’s work creates a painterly counterpoint. Through layered acrylic surfaces and a range of self-made structures, her paintings develop a particular depth. They are complemented by the targeted use of oil pastels, pigments and colouring pencils, which add accents and refine the colour compositions.
