Frequently asked questions
Families Graubünden region · answered by our editorial team
Is the Graubünden region a safe winter sports area?
Yes, the Graubünden region has more than 40 top ski resorts. This is also due to their above-average altitude, which guarantees guaranteed snow. In total, over 2000 kilometers of slopes await snow sports enthusiasts. The ski resorts are served by 381 ski lifts. The largest ski areas, often with several hundred kilometers of slopes, include Laax, Samnaun, Davos-Kloster, Arosa-Lenzerheide and Corvatsch-Furtschellas. The latter ski area starts at over 3300 meters above sea level, making it the highest ski area in Graubünden.
What is particularly recommended in the Graubünden region in summer?
A particularly unusual excursion takes you to Arosa Bear Country. Three bears were rescued from their unfortunate previous home by the animal protection organization "Vier Pfoten" (Four Paws) and can now be safely observed from a visitor platform in Arosa. Amidst the mountain panorama of Arosa, this is a wonderful experience for young and old. Along the way, visitors learn in a playful way how the bears live and feed.
There are plenty of waterways for bikers along the Vorder and Hinterrhein. For this purpose, you can rent a gravel e-bike and ride perfectly over gravel.
Through the Rhine Gorge, also known as the "Swiss Grand Canyon", you have the possibility to go rafting very actively or you can be driven through comfortably. The Rhine Gorge adventure train runs without a roof on summer weekends from Landquart through the gorge to Ilanz. The locals also call this gorge "Ruinaulta", which is the Romanesque name for the Rhine Gorge.
You can also start the morning on the Silsersee or the Silvaplanersee with a stand-up paddling. And everywhere at the lakes baths or spas are waiting for you. You can rent water sports equipment everywhere near the lakes.
Are there UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Graubünden region?
The Rhaetian Railway is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Albulaline and the Bernina line. Both lines connect the town of Thusis to the Italian town of Tirano. They were completed in the early 20th century and are considered a remarkable achievement from the beginnings of the railway.
