Conthey

Conthey is a municipality that stretches from the Rhone Valley in the Valais up to the Tsanfleuron Glacier at 3000 meters above sea level. Because of its mild climate in the Rhone Valley, the commune is the fourth largest wine-growing community in Switzerland. Just outside the village of Le Bourg stands the chapel of Sainte-Pétronille, which is well worth seeing. It was built by a patrician family around 1690 and has a richly decorated baroque altar. From Conthey you can reach the protected valley of Derborence in half an hour by car via an adventurous road.

“The castle was much bigger inside than expected, with amazing history and stunning artefacts. It was a great time of year to visit, not too crowded, and the whole experience was interesting. Walking where people walked hundreds of years ago felt humbling.”
