“Beautiful train ride along the Eiger and a long toboggan run”
“Great for beginners and toddlers”
“The guide is careful and professional. It’s good experience for my first sledding.”
“5 Stars”
“We really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, when ordering tickets online, I didn’t notice (it’s at the very bottom of the mobile website after an ad) that children up to 16 years can travel for free when accompanied by an adult.”
“Super sled, light and agile, easy to steer. We had a lot of fun. The service was fast and very friendly. Tip top 👍🙏🏻”
At Tschentenalp, there are several slopes that are very popular among sledders. Sledding on Engstligenalp is possible on multiple snow tube runs. Sledding fields can be found in the Adelboden region in and around Ausserschwand, Boden, Dorf, Engstligenalp, Schermtanne, and Tschentenalp.
You can go sledding with a variety of equipment. Sleds, ski sleds, balancers, airboards (air cushion sleds), racing sleds, or classic Davos wooden sleds can be rented when purchasing the sledding pass.

The 14 km of toboggan runs on Tschentenalp are divided into a total of six runs. Four of the runs run along the Möser chairlift. A particularly long run ends in the valley, as does the Skibock run. On Wednesdays and Saturdays you can go night sledding from 18:00 to 21:00. The toboggan run is then illuminated and you whiz through the night with your equipment.
Swiss Activities Tip: With our tobogganing ticket on Tschentenalp the toboggan rental as well as the ticket for the Tschentenbahn is included. The great thing is that you can change your vehicle as often as you like. So you have the possibility to ride the Skigibel, the Airboard and the Luge on the same day.

The toboggan run that leads from the Tschentenalp mountain station down into the valley to Adelboden is 6 km long. It ends at the schoolhouse in Bütscheggen in northern Adelboden. The subsequent walk to the Tschentenbahn valley station is about 45 min. However, after about 10 min of walking you can take the bus from Aussenschwand to Adelboden Post. The ride with the bus number 232 or 235 is included in your sledging ticket.
From Tschentenalp to Möser there are no less than five toboggan runs. They all start next to the top station of the chairlift. From here they lead down over the Tschentenegg and end after 300 meters of altitude at the valley station of the chair lift. After a 3.5 min ride with the chairlift you are back at the top station.

The challenging sledding track leading down into the valley is 1.5 km long. Every year, the Swiss Championship in sledding takes place here at Tschentenalp. Anyone who wants to can participate. The event is organized by Tschentenbahnen.
The races are held in the following categories:
After two qualification runs, the four fastest participants from each category compete in a knockout system for the podium places. Then there’s a final round where the winner and the runner-up race against each other for the title.
There are two beautiful sledding paths above Adelboden at Vogellisiberg.
At the mountain station Sillerenbühl, you can rent a sled. A modern 10-person gondola takes you to the middle station Bergläger in Adelboden. The sledding path is open daily from 1:00 PM.
The starting point for this 3.5 km long sledding track in Elsigen Metsch is the mountain station Elsigenalp (1796 m above sea level). The track ends at the valley station, located at about 1250 m above sea level. The cable car takes about 14 minutes to reach the mountain station, where you can take another round on the sled. There are free parking spaces available at the valley station.

The small ski lift in Adelboden bottom is a children's drag lift, which manages about fifteen meters of altitude over a length of 180 meters. 150 m long is the small sledding hill, which is perfect for children. Only when the World Cup Circus takes place at Chuenisbärgli, the operation of the children's ski lift is paused. Even night sledding is possible here. When snow conditions are good, it is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 19:00 to 21:00.
Snowtubing has become a new recreational fun for families. Adults also find their fun in riding down the track on the rubber ring. On Engstligenalp several tracks are specially prepared for this purpose.
You go down on a rubber ring and up again with the chairlift. The Snowtube lifts are open daily from mid-December to the beginning of April between 10:00 and 16:30.
In our guide to tobogganing in Switzerland, we have compiled detailed descriptions including photos and tips about tobogganing. Topics include:
Yes, almost all toboggan runs have their own safety instructions. If you bring your own sledding equipment, please check beforehand if it is allowed. Many tracks only allow wooden sledges and toboggans. However, there are also tracks that explicitly allow plastic bobs, airboards or skigibles. Also, on many toboggan runs, children are only allowed to toboggan when accompanied by an adult or older sibling
The Berne Advice Center for Accident Prevention has published Rules of conduct for tobogganing:
Sleds are more immobile than toboggans and difficult to steer because of the rigid construction. The flat runners provide a large contact surface on the snow. Since the runners and the actual wooden construction are firmly connected to each other, the runners are always perpendicular to the ground. Steering works only in connection with braking by the foot. This also makes a sled slower overall than a toboggan. Tight turns are practically impossible to drive
Compared to the sled, toboggans have a flexible frame. Toboggans are steered precisely by shifting the body and pulling the steering rope. Even tight turns can be made with the toboggan and there is no loss of speed due to foot braking. The curved runners provide a small contact surface on the snow and thus less resistance
Skibock, Balancer and Skigibel differ only slightly. They were virtually created from a ski and a seat, so they are a mixture of ski and sled.
SNOOC is the name of similar sledging devices, which have the advantage of being able to be used alternately as a ski and a toboggan
An air cushion sled is inflatable. It is usually referred to as an airboard or snowbodyboard. Two handles on the top of the board are used for holding.
In the Bernese Oberland, the velogemel is a new sledding device. It is modeled after a bicycle and can be used like a sled.
The Bergfink is a sport sled ergonomically designed for young adults. It has room for a child in front of the adult. It is wider and has two highly wear-resistant PE-1000 plastic runners instead of steel runners for better gliding. For both fresh snow and ice, the Bergfink grips well. However, it has a high abrasion and is therefore not environmentally friendly. The skids can be driven on both sides and can be quickly replaced.
Almost all toboggan runs that are directly accessible by cable car also rent out toboggans and sleds at the mountain or valley station. In large ski resorts, there are also sports stores in the ski area that rent you equipment for sledding fun. For smaller resorts, it is important to find out in advance where you can rent equipment nearby. It is always advisable to make a reservation in advance anyway, as supplies are usually limited.
In addition to warm clothing with gloves and scarf, two things are especially important: sturdy shoes with a grippy sole and a helmet. For the darkness, a headlamp pays off. Often you can rent it together with the sled
