Mount Titlis – Overpriced, Overhyped, and Under Construction Visiting Mount Titlis was underwhelming. To get to the top, you have to go through several different legs of transport—train to Engelberg, gondolas to Trübsee and Stand, and finally the rotating “Rotair” cable car. And it does add an air of anticipation! The cost is steep— over CHF100 for a return ticket. You will find a lot of rush, construction everywhere, and very little of the calm alpine atmosphere that makes Switzerland special. The construction is especially disappointing. Large parts of the summit area feel more like a building site than a mountain escape. Add to that the crush of tourists jostling for the same photo spots, and you’re left with something that feels commercial and chaotic. Even the famous “DDLJ” (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) poster—iconic for Indian travelers—deserves a far better placement than where it’s currently tucked away. To be fair, the views are impressive. On a clear day (which we got for a few minutes), you do get sweeping panoramas across the Alps, and the Cliff Walk suspension bridge is unique. But the payoff doesn’t really match the price or hassle. Switzerland has countless mountains that deliver equally stunning, if not better, views with far less stress and at a much lower cost. In short, while Titlis does have its “wow” factor, I left feeling underwhelmed. Between the crowds, construction, high prices, and forced commercial touches, there are simply better ways to spend your time and money in Switzerland.
