LEIDENSCHAFT & SAMBA Virtuosity with heart and humour Bound by their love of South American and Southern European music, Paolo D’Angelo and Erika Lafosse come together to tackle Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s wonderful guitar concerto. For this, they were able to enlist the virtuoso and internationally renowned guitarist and fellow countryman of Castelnuovo, Alessio Nebiolo. The three musicians are linked not only by their passion for Brazilian choros, Andean folklore, Argentine milongas and tango nuevos, but also by their teaching at the Musikschule Prova in Winterthur and the Music Academy in Geneva. Starting from Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s guitar concerto in D major, which the Italian from a Jewish banker’s family composed shortly before his emigration and which was premiered in Montevideo, the three musicians repeatedly set their musical foot on the South American continent. Just as music influences each other across the Atlantic, this musical journey oscillates between the old continent and the southern new world. The familiar follows the unfamiliar, favourite pieces awaken memories, the new surprises with an unusual line-up and arrangements written by the trio themselves.
