LEIDENSCHAFT & SAMBA Virtuosity with heart and humour United by their love of South American and Southern European music, Paolo D’Angelo and Erika Lafosse come together to take on Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s wonderful guitar concerto. For this, they have enlisted the virtuoso and internationally known guitarist Alessio Nebiolo, a fellow countryman of Castelnuovo. But the three musicians are linked not only by their passion for Brazilian choros, Andean folklore, Argentinian milongas and tango nuevos, but also by their teaching work at the Prova music school in Winterthur and the University of Music in Geneva. Starting from Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s guitar concerto in D major, which the Italian from a Jewish banking family composed shortly before his emigration and which was premiered in Montevideo, the three musicians repeatedly set foot musically on the South American continent. Just as music influences one another across the Atlantic, this musical journey moves back and forth between the old continent and the southern New World. Familiar music is followed by the unfamiliar, favourite pieces awaken memories, and the new surprises with unusual instrumentation and arrangements written by the trio themselves. With their captivating playing, they make the audience’s hearts resonate; the trio masters the full range of emotions.
