Kaltbrunn Fair is regarded as the largest livestock market in Eastern Switzerland and has existed since 1553. This important regional event always takes place from Tuesday to Thursday after the first Sunday in October. It begins with the municipal livestock show. The fair week begins on Tuesday after the first Sunday in October with the municipal livestock show. It is organised by the Kaltbrunn Brown Cattle Breeders’ Association: Braunvieh, Fleckvieh, Original-Braunvieh and ROB-Brauvieh (Original-Braunvieh with at least 87.5 per cent OB blood) are shown. Start of the drive-in 8 a.m. In places, people drive in on foot through the village with decorations and cowbells. Attractions for families with children include a sand pit, a small-animal exhibition and a drawing competition. At midday, there is a large festival restaurant. In the afternoon, prizes are awarded: Schöneuter, Rinderchampion, Fitnessstar and the announcement of the drawing competition results. The main attraction is the miss election: Miss See-Gaster for OB and ROB from the whole Linth region, as well as Miss Kaltbrunn Braunvieh and Miss Kaltbrunn Fleckvieh. The event ends in the evening with the Buurechilbi with music in the EVK area. On Fair Wednesday, the district breeding bull show, the regional farm cup and the young breeders’ competition for Braunvieh take place. Start is at 8:45 a.m. The Kaltbrunn bull show gives breeders from all over Switzerland the opportunity to present breeding bulls for assessment and sale. Prior registration is welcome. In the Regional Farm Cup, breeders from the See and Gaster region can take part with three lactating Braunvieh cows each. In addition to ranking points, the milk yields of the cows on show are included in the evaluation. The election of the most beautiful udder is another highlight of the day. In the calf competition, children in traditional dress present their decorated calf in an original way. Excitement is also guaranteed at the young breeders’ competition, when the expert ranks the various sections in the ring and finally crowns the year's Rinderchampion. On Thursday, the largest livestock and goods market in Eastern Switzerland takes place, with an attractive range of agricultural equipment and machinery. The Chilbi with various rides and numerous festival restaurants welcomes visitors.
