Staumauer Grande Dixence at a glance With its 285 metres in height, Staumauer Grande Dixence is Europe’s highest dam. It weighs around 15 million tonnes, making it heavier than the Pyramid of Khufu. The plant in Val des Dix produces electricity each year for around 500'000 households. That corresponds to the electricity demand of about 10% of households in Switzerland.
