O tomto místě
An elderly lady, a chauffeur and an unexpected friendship – a moving, humorous story about prejudice and humanity. Atlanta, Georgia, 1948: Miss Daisy Werthan is used to handling her own affairs. Until the day the 72-year-old widow crashes her new car into the neighbours’ garage, and her son Boolie dares to question her driving ability. She needs a chauffeur – something Miss Daisy first rejects vehemently. But she cannot resist the charm of the new driver, Hoke Coleburn, for long. With persistence, and unfazed by some unkind remarks from the old lady, Hoke eventually gets Miss Daisy to take a seat in the back. As they travel together, the contrasts – here the affluent, educated Jewish Southern lady, there the black employee from the working class – and the many unsuspected similarities between the two outsiders come to light. At a time when racial segregation in the USA still seemed to govern everyday life as a matter of course, a deep friendship gradually develops between the protagonists. Introduction: 18.30
