O tomto místě

Medea returns After the great success of the open-air production «Medea» in summer 2025, the theatre company Texte und Töne will once again stage the Freilichtbühne Kreuzmatt in Sissach in August 2026 – this time as a guest production. Alongside the revival of the acclaimed Medea production with Sarah Spale in the title role, the family show «Ferdinand der Stier» celebrates its premiere on the circular stage, in cooperation with the Verein Restaurant du Coeur. Two plays, one stage – no coincidence The decision to link both productions has solid practical reasons, both organisationally and in terms of content. Building the circular stage constructed especially for «Medea» on the Nebiker-Areal is complex. After the almost sold-out summer of 2025, praised by audiences and the press alike, director Kaspar Geiger and production manager Andreas Daniel Müller knew: this stage should be used again, and this time for an even broader audience. At the same time, Claudia Adrario, singer and actor who takes part in the Medea production, approached the people in charge with the wish to bring «Ferdinand der Stier» to this stage. The shape of the stage is the connecting element between Medea and Ferdinand. A white wooden circle, framed by a row of chairs that cannot be moved. Medea or Ferdinand are «trapped» in the circle of chairs. Medea is exposed to the rejection and violence of the people of Corinth. Ferdinand finds himself in the bullfighting arena of Granada. His fate seems sealed. «Medea» – Sarah Spale returns to Sissach After the final performance last autumn, Sarah Spale thrilled Swiss cinema audiences with the film «Hallo Betty» – now the actor, known from «Platzspitz-Baby» and «Wilder», returns to the Freilichtbühne Kreuzmatt. In the title role, she plays a Medea torn between despair, strategy, vulnerability and defiance. Euripides’ tragedy tells of exclusion, abuse of power and fear of the self-determined woman – themes written in 431 BC and that feel alarmingly current today. In director Kaspar Geiger’s production, Medea is not a fanatical avenger, but an ambivalent, fighting woman. All roles – including the male ones – are played by female actors and accompanied by a percussionist. Around 800 audience members attended the performances in summer 2025 – the shows were almost sold out and met with great enthusiasm from both audiences and the press. With the participation of: Direction: Kaspar Geiger | Production management: Andreas Daniel Müller | Technical direction: Jan Gubser | Set: Thomas Giger | Costume: Julia Sewing | Make-up: Anna Tschannen | Assistant director: Anna Sonnenschein | Cast: Sarah Spale, Claudia Adrario, Sophie Eglin, Julia Sewing, Anna Sonnenschein | Percussion: Lucia Carro Veiga
