Vevey is a town on the northeastern shore of Lake Geneva. Pile dwellings dating back to the 4th century BC have been found on the territory of the town. Vevey is connected with the municipalities in the north of Lake Geneva as far as Lausanne by passenger boats. Buildings worth seeing are the church of Saint Martin, the town hall from the 18th century and the old town with former patrician houses. A lakeside promenade with typical houses of the seaside architecture is a special highlight of the town. Vevey is located about seven km west of Montreux. Vevey's landmark is a fork, which was erected in the lake on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Alimentarium.
