Experience a moderately difficult hiking route led by a private guide that will bring you very close to the Matterhorn

You will take the highest open-air railroad in Europe up to Gornergrat at 3089 m.a.s.l. Gornergrat is the starting point for many hikes as it is surrounded by 29 alpine peaks, all of which rise above 4000 m

You can expect a day hike from Zermatt with a professional guide and incomparable views of the famous Matterhorn!

Meeting point: Gornergratbahn.

Outside the Gornergratbahn station your local guide will be waiting for you.

You ride: with the Gornergratbahn

The highest open-air railroad in Europe takes you up to the Gornergrat. At over 3000 meters above sea level, you will enjoy a fantastic view of the world-famous Matterhorn.

You enjoy: the view

At the beginning you climb comfortably to the viewing platform and can enjoy the wonderful panoramic view of an incredible 29 4000m peaks. A short refreshment on the sun terrace of the Kulm Hotel, the highest hotel in Europe, and souvenir stores invite you to relax and stroll.

You begin: your hike.

After a short descent on the cog railroad, your hiking adventure begins. You will hike at a pleasant pace through a nature reserve with a special geology and beautiful wildflowers. At an alpine lake you stop for great photos of the Matterhorn.

You visit: the restaurant Riffelberg.

You take a short break at the Riffelberg, where Mark Twain used to spend the night. The breathtaking view of the Matterhorn accompanies you here as well.

Way back: hike and train ride.

Depending on your hiking enthusiasm and energy level, you and your guide can decide how far you want to hike. Finally, you board the Gornergratbahn and travel back to Zermatt.

Practical Information:

  • Take along: Lunch (lunch/picnic), Plenty of water (the altitude makes you thirsty!), Sunscreen and sun hat
